West Caicos is as the name suggests the most westerly island in the chain of islands. Rich in history it is primarily known for great fishing and super shore diving with many walls to explore. In the deep waters you may see nurse sharks, tiger, blue and occasional a hammerhead or two. Stingrays and turtles also make this a regular haunt. West is surrounded by deep water with no reef. West Caicos began development for an island retreat in the mid 2000; with the world economic crisis of 2008 the development stopped. In 2012 this retreat is scheduled to resume with completion of a five-star Ritz-Carlton Hotel, a marina, harbour town and residential settlement. The island is easily accessible from Providenciales by boat, taking only 15 to 20 minutes to go back and forth. You can see West Caicos from the westerly point of Providenciales.
