Middle Caicos is joined to North by a causeway, built in the mid 2000s, making access to transportation to other islands easier for residents. Middle Caicos has the largest land mass of all the Turks and Caicos Islands with only a few hundred residents. There is a small airport on Middle. Crossing Place Trail originally linked Middle and North Caicos and today serves as a scenic and educational introduction to island natural history and culture. Much of the local straw works of baskets, hats and other unique items are made by the skilled fingers of Middle Caicos women. There are also still places that you will find native sloops being hand built to blueprint found only in the builders mind. Middle has its beautiful beaches of Mudjin Harbour – one of the country’s most breathtaking sights. Middle Caicos caves and caverns are a must see – the Caribbean’s largest cave system, home to colonies of bats, stalactites, stalagmites and other limestone architecture- best to be explored with a local guide.
